Community Service Initiative - Week 8
This week we had a quick class to report our progression for each team. From stationery team, this week my team mate received crayons donation from a primary school teacher. After letting our lecturer knew, he gave us inputs, which was to color code the crayons and melt it, put in the mold to make it looks like new crayons, more presentable. Then me and my group mate discussed briefly on how to proceed, like when we are going to start doing it, since it requires color coding, melting the wax, placing them into molds, drying them out, and organizing them into packagings.
After class on Thursday, we took some time to color code all the crayons. We ended up having 14 different colors, and we peeled off the labels and tape them together according to the colors. Me and Risca got help from Aisyah and Patrick from paint team in the class since the amount of the crayons were a lot.
Afterwards, me and my groupmate from stationery team went to buy all the necessities and stuffs for us to start re-making the crayons. We went to AEON, Daiso, and Mr DIY because we were trying to find cheapest ones we could possibly find. we bought the molds, chopsticks, plastic containers for us to store the final products, as well as other small things needed. We decided to buy alphabet shaped molds because it was meant for kids and looks more interesting to them.
After that it was already 8pm so we rushed back to start doing it. We were doing it in my place in DK S e After settling down and resting for a while, me and Risca started doing it with the help of Fiona from furniture/project managers. We had 5 failed attempts before finally we figured out how to melt the crayon properly. Melted container, the liquid leaking, exploded, etc. It took us some time to be able to finish melting everything, because of the cleaning process took a lot of time as well. It was around 2 am when we finally finish with the final products. Also Darren, also from the furniture group/project manager helped us on doing the labels for each color to be pasted on the container.
